Alabama Volleyball Earns Pair of SEC Weekly Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - After weekend wins over Tennessee and South Carolina, Alabama took home a pair of weekly volleyball honors from the Southeastern Conference, announced Monday. Sophomore Kat Hutson was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week and senior Sierra Wilson was named SEC Co-Setter of the Week.
Hutson posted 43 kills over the weekend's two matches, averaging 5.38 kills per set with a .345 hitting percentage. On Friday against Tennessee, the sophomore outside hitter knocked in a season-high 24 kills with just five errors on 45 swings, good for a .422 clip. She has now hit above .400 in three matches this season, including twice in conference play. This season, Hutson is second on the team with 319 kills (3.71/set) and fourth in the SEC in both kills and points (356.5).
Wilson totaled 116 assists over eight sets this weekend, averaging 14.50 per set while pacing an offense that hit .329 as a team over the two matches. Her 62 assists against the Volunteers on Friday is her highest total in a four-set match this season, while the 12 digs in the match mark her fifth double-double of the season. Adding 54 more assists on Sunday against South Carolina, Wilson now has 5,525 career assists, which is only 53 shy of Brigitte Slack's career record of 5,578. The senior setter leads the team and the SEC this season with 1,253 assists (11.82/set) and ranks in the top 10 nationally in both total assists and assists per set.
Wilson shares this week's SEC Setter of the Week award with Texas A&M's Stephanie Aiple. The Aggies' Jazzmin Babers was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week and Auburn's Brenna McIlroy was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Next up, Alabama will have a split road and home weekend, first heading to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators (18-5, 10-4 SEC) on Friday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. CT. The Tide then turns around and heads home for a home match on Sunday, Nov. 15 against Auburn (14-10, 6-6 SEC) at 3 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
