TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama baseball team inked 11 recruits to the 2016-17 roster last week during the early signing period. Camden Bauer
INF
6-3, 180
O'Fallon, Ill. (O'Fallon)
Camden Bauer is one of five out-of-state recruits in the 2016-17 class, hailing from O'Fallon, Ill. The 6-3 infielder currently attends O'Fallon High School, where he recently received third team all-conference honors and helped the Panthers reach the elite eight in the state playoffs. Bauer was also a standout on the gridiron during his sophomore and junior seasons, earning third team all-conference honors and ranking seventh in state history for passing yards in a single game with 561. The infielder comes from a family with baseball ties, as his great-great uncle Hank played for the New York Yankees, and his dad, Joe, played collegiately at Bradley University.
Head Coach Mitch Gaspard on Bauer:
"Camden Bauer's a very rangy, very athletic player and can be a really good defender. His offensive game will grow as he's here. He's a very sharp kid. He's an intelligent baseball player. He can be a really steady guy for you in the middle of the diamond."
Coach Andy Phillips on Bauer:
"Camden Bauer is a middle infielder that has great defensive skills and has a big frame. I think he's got a chance to be a really good player for us. He's a great student and is somebody that we're excited to have in the program."
Nathan Altstadt
LHP
6-5, 205
Solon, Ohio (Solon)
Nathan Altstadt joins the Alabama baseball recruiting class in the middle of a standout career at Solon High School in Ohio. The southpaw earned first team All-Northeast Ohio Conference honors each of the last three years since joining the varsity baseball team. Altstadt has also stood out in the classroom, being named an All-Northeast Ohio Conference Scholar Athlete. He was also recognized for having the highest grade point average on the varsity baseball team as a freshman. Altstadt has also played for football for the Comets each year of high school. His father, Mark, played basketball collegiately at Ashland University.
Head Coach Mitch Gaspard on Altstadt:
"Nathan is a left-handed pitcher. He's another guy with a really high ceiling. He's a big kid with a live arm. Right now he's in the upper 80s, but we see that really growing in the future. We think he can be a really dominant left-handed pitcher. He's got the good body, and he's got everything you want in a guy that can develop into a front-end pitcher in the future for us."
Coach Andy Phillips on Altstadt:
"Nathan is a big left-handed pitcher that has tremendous upside, as he has great pitchability and a really good arm. He's another great student, and also a guy that we think that has a very high ceiling going forward."
