TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama softball has signed left-handed utility player Gabrielle Calloway to a national letter of intent, announced Thursday.
"Gabrielle has the potential to be a great lefty power hitter for us," UA head coach Patrick Murphy said. "She can play several positions and will be a valuable asset to us on defense."
Callaway is a two-time All-League honoree at Poway High School just outside of San Diego. She helped lead her team to a 2015 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) open division championship this past season, earning All-CIF honors in the process. She plays club softball with OC Batbusters and is listed on FloSoftball's 'Hot 100' list for 2016.
She is the second player to sign with Alabama so far during the early signing period, joining catcher Bailey Hemphill (Lafayette, La.).
She is the daughter of Brian and Judy Callaway and has three sisters: Maddie, Laura and Kristin.
