TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama Softball opened the early signing period Wednesday signing catcher Bailey Hemphill of Lafayette, La., to a national letter of intent.
Hemphill is a power-hitting senior catcher at St. Thomas More Catholic High School where she was named the Class 4A MVP in her freshman and sophomore seasons after leading them to back-to-back Class 4A state championships. After just two seasons, Hemphill broke the school's home run record, securing her status as one of the top power hitters in the nation.
"Bailey is one of the best power hitters in the country and we can't wait to get her in Crimson and White," UA head coach Patrick Murphy said.
This past season, she was named a NFCA High School First Team All-American and was selected to the American Family Insurance All-USA Second Team at catcher. She is listed on the USA Today 60 for '16 recruiting rankings and is the top rated 2016 catcher on FloSoftball's 'Hot 100' list. She is a three-time All-State, All-Acadiana and All-District honoree, including All-Acadiana MVP accolades in 2013 and 2014. With her club team, East Cobb Bullets, Hemphill finished third at the 2015 TC/USA Nationals tournament this past summer.
Hemphill is the daughter of Mark and Christi Hemphill and has one sister, Sydney.
