OVERLAND PARK, Kan.. - Alabama senior Levi Randolph is one of 30 student-athletes selected as a candidate for the 2014-15 Senior CLASS award in college basketball.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
This season, Randolph, who was voted by his teammates as team captain prior to the season starting, leads the Tide in scoring (15.0 ppg), while shooting 50.8 percent overall. He also leads the team in assists (47), steals (30), free throw shooting (83.2 percent) and minutes played (34.1 mpg). During his career at the Capstone, Randolph has played in a team-leading 120 consecutive games, having played in every game since arriving on campus and making 105 career starts.
Off the court, Randolph excels in the classroom, having earned his undergraduate degree in business marketing in only three years and graduating in August 2014. The Madison, Ala., native is currently working toward his master's degree in marketing. In his first semester as a graduate student, Randolph earned a 3.75 GPA, collecting three A's and a B. Randolph, whose ultimate goal is to become the first Academic All-American in men's basketball program history, is the first player to earn back-to-back CoSIDA Academic All-District First-Team honors (2013, 2014).
Randolph is also actively involved in community projects around the Tuscaloosa area. His efforts were recognized by the league office, earning a nod to the 2013 Southeastern Conference Community Service team. The award recognizes any individuals' work within the community in which his school is located. In addition to his community service, Randolph speaks at elementary schools, assists in Sarrell Dental's free basketball camp for under-privileged children and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
The 30-man list will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2015 Final Four in Indianapolis, Ind.
