Alabama Head Coach Kristy Curry
Opening statement:
"I'm just really disappointed in how we started the game. The first 10 minutes of the game were extremely embarrassing and disappointing. People outside were saying how it was a good job of fighting hard and trying to put yourself in a position to win, but we have got to understand that we want to win games. We are here to win. We got to understand that we have to put 40 minutes together. Today we didn't put 40 minutes together, and you cannot win in this league not putting 40 minutes together. It's just disappointing today."
On what has to change in the players:
"We have got to have everyone on a consistent basis ready to go. In Georgia, we go to our shoot-around and we were horrific. Come today, we took a different approach and it didn't work. At some point as a player you got to be able to step up and be ready to go. I am tired of blaming things on inexperienced youth. It's late January, so we have got to understand across the board the significance that every possession matters from the first to the last."
Vanderbilt Head Coach Melanie Balcolmb
On Alabama coming back in the second half:
"I thought they started coming back in the first half. They started off really slow, missing their first nine shots, and I knew that wasn't going to continue. That changed midway through the first half and it became a more competitive game. The second half they did take the lead, but we did a good job of keeping our composure to ended up getting it right back. We held the lead until the end of the game."
On anticipating Alabama getting off to a slow start:
"To be honest with you, we're really young. We haven't won a game on the road yet. We weren't really that focused on how Alabama has been starting game, but more focused on how we've been starting games. I was pleased with our start just because we've been starting a little slow. This was our third road game, and we've worked really hard on doing a better job being ready; I thought that's what we did. Heather (Bowe) was very key at the beginning of the game to us being ready. She was ready to play, and she scored a lot of points for us early while defending well. She was very consistent and that was one of the keys right there, getting that good start. I feel like if we wouldn't have had that good start, we would have been in a lot of trouble."
#21 Heather Bowe, Forward
On her team's confidence:
"I definitely see confidence in a lot of my teammates. Paris Kea and Jasmine Jenkins are being really confident and attacking in the press. I think that's giving everyone else confidence on the court. Also, when Kristen Gaffney checks in the game, you can see she is really poised and that helps our team. We're getting a lot more confident."
On playing in the SEC:
"I love SEC basketball. It is for sure the best conference in the country. Literally every game anyone could win. It's the top athletes in the country and everyday it's a grind."
