TUSCALOOSA, Ala . - Alabama volleyball has announced the hiring of Shelly Dyche as its new assistant coach, reuniting Dyche with her former colleague and current Alabama head coach Ed Allen, as the two previously coached together for two seasons at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind.
"It's a little bit of a dream come true to come here and work with Coach Allen again," says Dyche. "This environment makes it very exciting. I have a passion for the game of volleyball and have dreamed about the opportunity to get back into it at this level and I can't think of a better place to be able to do that than Alabama."
Dyche assisted Allen in his first two seasons at Anderson University in 1992-93. There, they helped set the stage for what would be a successful 11-year run for Allen. Following her stint at Anderson, Dyche started in 1996 as a high school volleyball coach and K-12 physical education teacher in the Lewis Palmer School District in Monument, Colo., and has spent the past 19 years at that position. She has been involved with coaching volleyball at various levels for over 30 years.
Dyche will serve as Alabama's recruiting coordinator and will assist in the development of its setters.
"I am excited to work with Shelly again after 22 years," says Allen. "She was instrumental in helping me build the program at Anderson University in 1992 and '93. Shelly brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience and genuine passion for the game. She will be a terrific mentor to our student-athletes."
