Women's Golf Opens Play at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Alabama women's golf team shot a 4-over 292 in the opening round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate on Sunday at the par-72 6,2447-yard Watson Course at the Reunion Resort.
After the first round the Crimson Tide sits in seventh place, 12 shots off Arizona's lead.
"I was happy with the number of opportunities to make birdie we had today," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "We had a lot more pressure on the golf course than we had at any time last week, so I was really happy with that improvement."
All five Alabama golfers finished the first round in the top 40 individually, led by junior Emma Talley and freshman Lakareber Abe's even par rounds of 72. Both Talley and Abe sit four shots off the lead of Wanasa Zhou (4-under 68) of Arizona.
Sophomore Cammie Gray and freshman Nicole Morales shot 2-over 74 and are tied for 35th, while sophomore Mia Landegren was Alabama's drop score with a 3-over 75. Landegren is tied for 40th.
"Everybody was in the ball game the entire round, so having some consistency throughout our lineup really helps," Potter said. "I look for us to keep improving. Our ball striking was better this week than it was last week, and if we can keep improving at that rate, we are going to be a good team."
Arizona leads the 12-team field entering the second round, after a first round of 8-under 280. Trailing by two shots, South Carolina sits in second at 6-under, while Northwestern and Stanford are tied for third at 2-under. Oklahoma State and Southern California posted a round of 1-under 287, and are tied for fifth.
Alabama tees off the second round from hole No. 10 at 7 a.m. (CDT), and will be paired with Arizona State and Duke. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
