TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The football continued its bye week practices on Wednesday with a two-hour workout on the Thomas-Drew Practices Fields in full pads.
It is the second of four practices this week as the Crimson Tide focuses on improving fundamentals and techniques before getting into Ole Miss preparations later in the week. No. 3 Alabama's next contest is slated for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. It will be the Tide's first visit to Oxford since the 2011 season due to SEC scheduling.
Crimson Tide junior wide receiver Amari Cooper has made waves throughout the country with his impressive start of the 2014 season. In fact, Cooper is off to the fastest start of any wide receiver in SEC history. His 43 catches for 655 yards breaks the old mark set by Carlos Alvarez of Florida in 1969, who totaled 36 receptions for 642 yards.
His 43 receptions for 655 yards both lead the nation. Cooper is averaging 3.1 receptions per game more than the next receiver in the Southeastern Conference and 40.3 yards per game more than the next best in the league. He is only two receptions and 81 yards behind his entire 2013 season with already having one more touchdown (5 to 4) this year.
Alabama will practice again Thursday and Friday before breaking for the weekend and then returning to the practice field on Monday, Sept. 29.
