TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The football team began its bye week practices on Tuesday with a two-hour workout on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.
It is the first of four practices this week as the Crimson Tide fixes mistakes from Saturday and revisits the fundamentals before getting into Ole Miss preparations. No. 3 Alabama's next contest is slated for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. It will be the Tide's first visit to Oxford since the 2011 season due to SEC scheduling.
Alabama just completed its seventh straight undefeated September slate, going 3-0 in 2014 for 27 consecutive September wins. If you throw in three August victories in that time frame the winning streak grows to 30. October has also been a good month for the Tide, posting a 21-1 mark since the start of the 2008 season.
The Crimson Tide's production on the offensive side of the football is off to a record breaking start, amassing 2,377 yards of total offense in the first four games (594.3 ypg), which is the most of any four-game stretch in school history. UA posted the second-highest offensive output in school history this past weekend against Florida, totaling 672 yards, including 449 through the air. It was the most allowed in the history of Gator football.
Several awards also rolled in for Alabama following the 42-21 victory over Florida. Quarterback Blake Sims was named the Walter Camp National Player of the Week, while Amari Cooper shared SEC Player of the Week accolades. Sims threw for 445 yards and four scores while Cooper caught 10 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Cooper was also named the College Football Performance Awards Wide Receiver of the Week.
Alabama will practice again Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before breaking for the weekend and then returning to the practice field on Monday, Sept. 29.
