Football in Full Pads as Southern Miss Prep Continues

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The football team practiced for two hours in full pads on Wednesday at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.
The Crimson Tide welcomes Southern Miss to Bryant-Denny Stadium for the first time since 2005. The Golden Eagles are 1-1 on the season after defeating Alcorn State last weekend. USM went 1-11 in 2013, defeating UAB in the final game of the season. They are led by second-year head coach Todd Monken.
A priority of every Alabama defense is affecting the quarterback and the Crimson Tide has had some success doing that early in the 2014 season. The Tide has six sacks in the first two games (3 vs. West Virginia and 3 vs. Florida Atlantic), which are the most for an Alabama team in the first two games of the season since recording 10 sacks in the first two games of the 2009 undefeated national championship season (5 vs. Virginia Tech and 5 vs. FIU). Xzavier Dickson leads the Tide with two sacks through two games in 2014.
Saturday's kickoff against Southern Miss is set for 5 p.m. CT on ESPN 2. Joe Tessitore will handle the play-by-play duties with Brock Huard as the analyst and Shannon Spake on the sidelines.
