CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Alabama soccer team scored four goals in a six-minute span in the opening half and cruised to a 5-0 victory over Austin Peay on Friday night in Clarksville, Tenn.

The Tide (2-1) outshot the Governors (1-2), 24-1, including a 15-0 advantage in shots on goal. Alabama also had a 9-0 edge in corner kicks on the night.

"I thought we came out and took care of business from the opening whistle," head coach Todd Bramble said. "The players responded well to the challenge of the first road game. I thought we handled it well playing on a different field and in front of their fans. We can't get ahead of ourselves. We have to stay focused because we will play another road game against a quality opponent on Sunday night."

Senior midfielder Merel van Dongen led the Tide's dominating performance with a goal and an assist. Redshirt freshman Hailey Brohaugh scored her team-leading third goal of the year, while seniors Laura Lee Smith, Theresa Diederich and Pia Rijsdijk also found the back of the net.

The Tide poured it on early and often in the opening 45 minutes of play. The onslaught began in the 17^th minute when van Dongen scored off an assist from freshman Lacey Clarida. Van Dongen then recorded her first helper of the year just 1:47 later, at the 18:47 mark, with an assist on Smith's second goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, at the 20:35 mark, Diederich netted her first goal this year from an Abby Lutzenkirchen assist, followed by Brohaugh's goal off an assist from freshman Molly Moroney at the 23:38 mark.

Rijsdijk ended the scoring when she found the back of the net just prior to halftime, just 54 seconds before the halftime whistle.

From there, the Alabama defense shut down Austin Peay's offensive attack, limiting the Governors to only a handful of attacks throughout the game. Goalkeeper Emily Rusk did not have to make a save en route to her second career shutout.

The Crimson Tide will next make the short trip to Murfreesboro, Tenn., where it will square off at Middle Tennessee on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m. CT.
