The Crimson Tide won three of the five matches it played in to finish up the regular season last weekend with a 14-14 overall record and a 4-8 mark in SEC action. Alabama won Friday's match against Tulane, 4-1, and a pair of matches on Sunday against Nicholls State, both by 4-0 decisions, but fell to No. 9 Georgia, 4-0, and No. 21 Tennessee, 4-2. The highlight of the weekend was a win in doubles for Daniil Proskura and Becker O'Shaughnessey over top-ranked Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese of Tennessee. The Tide duo has now knocked off No. 1 and No. 2 in the country in consecutive weeks and ended the Vols' 20-match winning streak in SEC play that dated back to 2012.
In the latest installment of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, Alabama remained at No. 33 as a team. In singles, Proskura moved to No. 26, while O'Shaughnessey jumped 22 places to No. 76. In doubles, Proskura and O'Shaughnessey climbed to No. 15.
The Gamecocks finished the regular season with a 14-12 overall record, including a 5-7 mark against conference opponents. Last weekend, they went 2-1 picking up wins against Murray State and No. 27 Vanderbilt, while dropping a 4-2 decision at No. 14 Kentucky.
South Carolina currently has two players ranked in singles in No. 55 Andrew Adams and No. 107 Tsvetan Mihov. The Gamecocks also boasts two nationally-ranked duos in doubles with No. 23 Chip Cox and Mihov, as well as No. 77 Kyle Koch and Cox.
In the regular-season meeting between Alabama and South Carolina the Gamecocks came away with a 4-3 victory in Columbia, S.C. Despite the loss, the Tide still leads the series, 20-16.
