Retin Obasohan Named To SEC Community Service Team

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Sophomore guard Retin Obasohan has been selected to the 2014 Southeastern Conference's Community Service team, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Obasohan's community service has included Habitat for Humanity (2012, 2013), Project Angel Tree - Books for Kids (2011-13) and Halloween Extravaganza (2011-13). In addition to those projects, Obasohan has given speeches to numerous local high schools and churches regarding to the importance of staying in school, how to succeed in life and rigors of life as a student-athlete. He also volunteered his time at Sarrell Dental free sports camps for underprivileged kids. Furthermore, back in his hometown of Antwerp, Belgium, Obasohan mentored younger kids at a boarding school.
On the court, Obasohan has played in 29 games for the year, making 20 starts and ranks second on the team with 9.6 points per game. He enters the SEC Tournament ranked third in the SEC and 67th nationally with 1.8 steals per game. Obasohan also ranks second on the Tide in blocks per game (1.0) and leads UA in free throws made (104).
The annual award handed out from the league office recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition.
This marks the 16th year for the SEC Community Service Team for men's basketball as well as for women's basketball. All 21 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003.
