UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The women's basketball team dropped its final game at the Hall of Fame Women's Challenge to Quinnipiac, 73-66, at Mohegan Sun Arena. With the loss, the Crimson Tide dips to 5-3 on the season, while the win lifts the Bobcats to 4-2 overall.
"I am disappointed in the effort and decision making today," said Alabama head coach Kristy Curry. "We played a senior-laden team that has made the postseason the last three years, and we can certainly learn a lot from them. Credit Quinnipiac. We need to continue to grow and get ready for Tuesday."
Freshman Meoshonti Knight led UA in scoring with 16 points, going 7-7 from the free throw line, while adding five rebounds and three assists off the bench. She was joined in double figures by redshirt freshman Karyla Middlebrook (15) and sophomore Ashley Williams (12). Quinnipiac senior Jasmine Martin led all scorers with 24 points.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 40.7 percent (24-59), while the Tide hit 34.9 percent (22-63) from the floor. Alabama knocked down 90 percent (18-20) of its free throws and outrebounded Quinnipiac, 46-35.
Freshman Hannah Cook knocked down the first basket of the game, but the Bobcats would take the lead, which they held until the 10:54 mark when Knight sank a pair of free throws giving Alabama the 15-13 edge. The Tide led by as many as seven in the half, however an 8-2 run by the Bobcats over the final 2:42 of the period cut Alabama's edge to only one, 37-36, heading into the locker room.
The first five minutes of the second half went back and forth as the game saw five lead changes, but with the game tied 43-43 with 14:49 to go, Quinnipiac would embark on an 18-6 run to take a 12-point lead, 61-49. UA cut it to five late, but would come no closer.
Alabama returns home for its final seven non-conference games of the regular season beginning with USC Upstate on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The game is slated to tip off in Foster Auditorium at 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on SEC Network +.
