TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Head Coach Jenny Mainz announced Friday the official addition of Andie Daniell for the 2015-16 season.
"Our Alabama women's tennis team took a giant step forward with the signing of Andie Daniell," said Mainz. "Andie is a winner. She possesses the attributes that we have built our program around - strong character, integrity, exceptional work ethic, discipline and she is very team-oriented. Andie is going to make an immediate and profound impact on our program."
Daniell, from Douglasville, Ga., is a blue chip recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net and is ranked as the No. 3 national recruit and No. 1 player from the state of Georgia. Daniell began playing tennis at age five and achieved the No. 1 national ranking in every USTA junior age group as she grew up. She won two gold balls in doubles play in the G-14 hard court and G-12 clay court tournaments. Over her career, she won 10 national medals, five gold and five silver, as well as multiple state, section and ITF titles in both singles and doubles. Off the court, the Georgia native held a 4.0 through high school and earned the Directors Award for Academic Achievement each year at Johnson Ferry Christian Academy.
"Andie's vast experience and intense competitiveness is going to certainly improve our team," Mainz added. "She plays every point with a ferocious sense of urgency. I admire her constant pursuit of excellence in everything she does. I'm excited about the future of our Alabama women's tennis program with Andie leading the way with her championship mentality."
This marks the second year in a row the Tide has inked a top performer from the state of Georgia, signing the No. 5 recruit from the state in Aryn Greene last season. Alabama women's tennis will resume play on Jan. 16-18 when Tuscaloosa plays host to Mal Moore Invitational which includes teams from Georgia Tech, Northwestern and Yale.
