TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama baseball, in a partnership with the Mobile BayBears and Mobile Sports Authority, will play a three-game series at historic Hank Aaron Stadium over the weekend of Friday, March 6, to Sunday, March 8, the parties announced. The meeting will be the third time Lipscomb and Alabama will have squared off and the first time in a three-game series.
"When I first realized the UA baseball team would have to play away from Sewell-Thomas Field in 2015 due to the stadium renovations, I thought it would make a lot of sense to talk to them about playing in Mobile at `The Hank'," said Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority, Danny Corte. "So I called the BayBears and a few UA contacts and ran the idea up the flag pole. Both the BayBears and the University were very interested about the idea from the very beginning. So after several discussion with all the parties, we finally reached an agreement to have UA play a three-game series at The Hank this March. Needless to say, we're very excited to have Coach Gaspard and his Crimson Tide baseball team playing a series in Mobile. I'm hopeful that this is just the start of the doing something like this on a regular basis. So we hope baseball fans will come out and support the event at The Hank."
Due to the redevelopment of Sewell-Thomas Stadium, Alabama will be hosting its home games at various locales in 2015, including Mobile, Montgomery, Birmingham and a majority of the season's home games at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
"Mobile is another opportunity for us to go into southern Alabama and bring our brand to Mobile," said head coach Mitch Gaspard. "I think it's just another chance for us to go out throughout the state this year and get out there, have people that may not be able to watch us play, get to see a series or even if it's one game."
The Tide has squared off twice in the past with Lipscomb, first in 2006, with Alabama cruising to a 15-2 win. The most recent meeting between the two teams came in 2008, with the Tide securing an 8-4 victory pushing Alabama to 2-0 all-time vs. the Bison.
"It's been over 10 years since the BayBears have hosted The University of Alabama at Hank Aaron Stadium and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to host them again for three games in March," said Chris Morgan, General Manager of the Mobile BayBears. "Our organization looks forward to providing fans attending this series with the same level of outstanding service they will experience throughout the upcoming season of the BayBears."
Hank Aaron Stadium is named after Mobile native and record-breaking Hall of Famer Henry Aaron, Jr. "The Hank" opened on April 17, 1997, welcoming minor league baseball back to Mobile after a 27-year absence. The stadium can seat up to 6,000 in reserved seats and includes 23 luxury boxes located only 52 feet from home plate.
Field level seats to The Hank are $15 while Club Level seating is $12. Center box seating behind home plate is $10 for fans while the reserve grandstand areas provide $8 seating.
Pre-sale tickets for BayBears sponsors and alumni of The University of Alabama go on sale from Nov. 10-16. Tickets for the general public go on sale on Nov. 17 and can be purchased through the Mobile BayBears ticket office.
