TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team held its first official practice of the 2014-15 season on Sunday afternoon at Foster Auditorium.
"We had great energy, and I thought their attention to detail was really good," said second-year head coach Kristy Curry. "I know we are just all excited to get started up. I love the energy level. The biggest thing with this group is how cohesive they are, how hard they work and their character."
Alabama will look to build on the foundation it put down a year ago, climbing from the bottom of the Southeastern Conference standings to a tie for sixth place in the league. Along the way the Crimson Tide enjoyed some big wins, including at No. 9 Kentucky, 57-55, for the program's first victory in Lexington since 2002 and first road W against a top-10 team since 1998 as well as its first win in program history at Vanderbilt. Alabama also closed the regular season with a 78-60 victory over No. 23 LSU, its first win against the Tigers since 2002.
The Tide returns three of its five starters from last season including sophomore Ashley Williams, who was named to the Freshman All-SEC team in 2013-14, junior Nikki Hegstetter and senior Sharin Rivers. Karyla Middlebrook, who started seven of nine games before sitting out the remainder of the season with a hip injury, also returns, as well as senior Briana Hutchen, junior Khadijah Carter and sophomore Oceana Hamilton. Alabama welcomes five newcomers including four true freshmen in Quanetria Bolton, Hannah Cook, Meoshonti Knight and Diamante Martinez, and sophomore Breanna Hayden, who will be eligible in January after transferring from Baylor.
After spending much of the non-conference slate on the road last season, Alabama will play 11 of its 15 non-conference games this season at home beginning with the opener against Florida A&M on Nov. 14. Duke and Nebraska, who both finished in the top 25, make trips to Tuscaloosa on Nov. 16 and Dec. 7, respectively.
Season ticket packages are currently on sale and can be purchased through the Alabama ticket office, located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, at 205.348.2262 or online at RollTide.com. Reserved general admission tickets are $45 for the public, $35 for groups of four or more and $25 for faculty/staff and senior citizens. All seats are located in section FL-G across from the Crimson Tide bench.
