Alabama Wraps Up 2014 USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama women's tennis team wrapped up play at the 2014 USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships on Monday, earning 31 total wins spanning four days.
Match play began in the morning with doubles where Alabama's top-seeded doubles pairing of Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe fell in a tough battle to No. 2-seed Auburn. The Tide got on top early, winning the first set 6-3, but then fell in the second set, 3-6. The Tiger pairing of Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger came away with the win in the end, claiming the 10-5 tiebreaker victory.
In singles, Luicelena Perez claimed the singles consolation title for Alabama. Perez took down Naomi Tran of Mississippi State in her lone match of the day. Perez earned a double breadstick, winning 6-1, 6-1 to claim her victory.
Following this weekend's tournament, Alabama's next action will start on Halloween and run until Nov. 2, as Tuscaloosa will play host to the Roberta Alison Fall Classic. Alabama will join 17 other teams from across the nation for the weekend tournament.
