
White, Overstreet and Castillo Earn All-SEC Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Three members of the 2013 Alabama NCAA Tournament team earned All-Southeastern Conference honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Freshman shortstop Mikey White was a Second Team All-SEC pick, while second baseman Kyle Overstreet and relief pitcher Ray Castillo earned all-freshman team honors.
A second-team All-SEC selection as a freshman, Mikey White started all 60 games at shortstop for the Crimson Tide. White leads the Crimson Tide with a .286 batting average heading into the 2013 NCAA Baseball Tournament. He was outstanding at the plate during SEC play, hitting .350 in 29 conference games, to rank eighth in the league during conference games, and he led the Tide with 17 RBI during conference action. White hit both his home runs in conference play, while seven of his 11 doubles came against SEC opponents.
White was also stellar on the defensive side, helping the Tide rank third in the country in double plays turned, through May 26. White contributed on 52 of Alabama's conference-leading 76 double plays through 60 games, while posting a .967 fielding percentage, making just 10 errors in 303 chances.
Kyle Overstreet started all 60 games at second base and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. Overstreet enters the postseason hitting .274, after finishing second on the club with a .291 average during SEC play. He was second on the team with 16 RBI during SEC play and finished third on the team with 36 RBI for the year. Overstreet was the toughest guy on the team to strikeout as he finished the year with 22 strikeouts in 223 at-bats.
Overstreet was also outstanding with the glove, as he posted a .983 fielding percentage, making six errors in 347 attempts this season. He leads the SEC with 63 fielding double plays in 2013.
Ray Castillo was also a SEC All-Freshman Team selection after collecting 11 saves for the Crimson Tide this season. Castillo currently ranks ninth in the conference in saves this year after converting 11-of-13 chances. His 11 saves currently rank tied for fourth in a single season and ninth in a career at Alabama. He is tied Lance Cormier for the freshman single season record at Alabama. Castillo has a team-high 24 appearances this season, posting a 2-2 record with a 2.61 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 41.1 innings pitched.
Alabama will return to action on Friday when they take on Troy in the first game of the 2013 NCAA Tallahassee Regional. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 p.m. CST from Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The game will also be televised on ESPNU and ESPN3.com.
