Head Coach Anthony Grant
Opening Statement:
"Credit has to go to Xavier. In the second half they completely changed the complexion of the game. From about the 12 minute mark on, we could not get stops and had a tough time getting any continuity. I give them credit. They did a great job of getting on the offensive glass, getting to the free throw line, making plays they had to make to win the game."
#20 Levi Randolph, Guard
On what changed in the second half:
"They were able to get off rebounds and cutbacks. We got in foul trouble, and they started getting to the line."
On going nine minutes without scoring:
"We were coming out and trying to do the things we needed to do. It just didn't happen the way we wanted it to."
Head Coach Chris Mack
On minimizing the turnovers:
"Alabama didn't press as much as we thought. We just felt like that would be the game plan. We started off with our three man inbounding the ball (Justin Martin). We had no quickness from defense to offense on made shots because we were really expecting them to press. That's what they usually do. In the second half we went more to our four man taking out of bounds, pushing the pace. You have to adjust to how a team plays."
On the comeback:
"I thought we were a much different team on the offensive end in the second half. I thought our team really got it going. We finished around the basket. We started scoring three ways. We scored around the basket with Isaiah Philmore and Matt Stainbrook doing the bulk of it, and we shot the ball much better from the three point line. James Farr got back-to-back threes, and it really swung the momentum in our favor. We got to the foul line. If you look at differential at how we shot the fouls from the foul shots tonight versus Alabama that probably was the difference."
#40 Matt Stainbrook, Center
On the comeback in the second half:
"First off we stuck together as usual, and that is something we can count on as a team. We started on the defensive end. We made a couple stops, kept the ball moving, kept the offensive end, and I feel like that is really what compelled us and we were able to catch back up."
