
Sierra Wilson Named SEC Volleyball Freshman of the Week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama setter Sierra Wilson (Anaheim, Calif.) was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Following the week, Wilson continues to lead the SEC with 11.42 assists per set this season.
Wilson helped the Crimson Tide post a 2-1 record last week that included victories over Samford (3-1) and LSU (3-0). As a team, Alabama hit .247 for the week as Wilson tallied 114 of the Tide's 130 assists in the three matches. Wilson averaged 10.36 assists per set and added seven kills, 22 digs (2.00 dps) and four total blocks.
Against Samford on Tuesday, Wilson averaged 11.0 assists per set in a four-set win, while helping the Tide post a .328 hitting percentage against the Bulldogs. She also had two kills and seven digs against Samford. In helping Alabama snap an 11-match losing streak to LSU, she had 35 assists (11.66 aps), seven digs, three kills and three assisted blocks in a three-set win over the Tigers. In the final match of the week against No. 17 Tennessee, she added 35 assists to go along with eight digs and a pair of kills, in a four-set loss to the Lady Vols.
Alabama returns to SEC action on Friday, Sept. 21, when it travels to Athens, Ga., to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. First serve between the Tide and Bulldogs is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, from the Ramsey Student Center.
