TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team has finalized its 2012-13 schedule, which was announced by head coach Wendell Hudson on Sunday. The Crimson Tide faces a diverse non-conference schedule, taking on teams from 11 difference conferences and will also take on 11 squads that advanced to postseason play in 2012.
"We are really looking forward to getting this season started," said Hudson. "We feel like we have put together another tough non-conference schedule that we believe will help us down the road, especially when we get into conference play."
In addition to its traditional 16-game Southeastern Conference slate, which for the first season will feature Missouri and Texas A&M, Alabama will compete against teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big East, the Big Ten, the Big West, Conference USA, the Northeast Conference, the Ohio Valley Conference, the Southern Conference, the Southland Conference, the Southwestern Athletic Conference and the Sun Belt.
The Tide will have one exhibition contest, hosting Stillman on Nov. 5, before tipping off the regular season against Jacksonville State on Sunday, Nov. 11. Alabama then has a quick turnaround as it prepares for its first road game of the season, which will take place at Houston on Nov. 13. The Tide rounds out the month of November with three-straight home games as it hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Nov. 17), North Texas (Nov. 19) and Southeastern Louisiana (Nov. 25).
Alabama kicks off December with a game at Wisconsin before returning home for a matchup with Chattanooga on Dec. 8. The Tide will then have a week off from competition for finals prior to its road game at Troy on Dec. 15. Alabama will have two additional home games before breaking for the holidays, including the annual Fifth Grade Fastbreak game, which is slated for Dec. 17 when the Tide hosts Wofford, followed by a meeting with Virginia on Dec. 21.
Alabama returns to action a week later to take part in the Bank of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu, where the Tide will play its final non-conference games before heading into the SEC slate. The trio of games includes Cincinnati, Long Island and host-institution Hawai'i.
Alabama will repack its bags shortly after returning from Hawai'i as the Tide tips off conference play at Texas A&M on Jan. 3. Alabama will have seven additional SEC road games including Mississippi (Jan. 13), Tennessee (Jan. 20), Georgia (Jan. 31), Florida (Feb. 3), Auburn (Feb. 17), Mississippi State (Feb. 21) and LSU (Feb. 28).
The Tide hosts its first SEC game of the season on Jan. 6, when it welcomes the Kentucky Wildcats to Foster Auditorium. Other home league contests include Georgia (Jan. 10), Auburn (Jan. 24), Vanderbilt (Jan. 27), South Carolina (Feb. 7), Arkansas (Feb. 10), Florida (Feb. 24) and Missouri (March 3).
