TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Crimson Tide, the No. 2 national seed, beat the UT Martin Skyhawks 5-1, to close out day one of the 2012 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional in front of 2060 fans at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama jumped out to an early lead, picking up three runs in the bottom of the first inning and tacking one in the second inning and one in the sixth. Alabama freshman Danae Hays provided some fireworks when she sent a solo homerun over the left-field fence in the second inning while the Skyhawk's lone run came on a homerun by senior Erica Duke in the fifth inning. Tide senior Amanda Lockepicked up the win for Alabama, pushing her record to 5-1 on the season, while Chelsea Jones took the loss for UT Martin, falling to 28-9.
Alabama returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against South Alabama while UT Martin faces Georgia Tech in an elimination game Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
