TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama soccer team closed its spring season with a 2-1 victory over Lee University, Sunday afternoon at the Alabama Soccer Stadium. With the win, the Crimson Tide finished the spring season with a 3-1-1 record.
After dropping behind quickly in the fourth minute, the Crimson Tide responded with two unanswered goals in the first half which would prove to be the difference.
Freshman Katie Bourgeois continued her stellar play in her first semester on campus as she evened the score in the 28th minute by burying a rebound from point-blank range.
Kaitlyn Smith then secured the game-winner as she scored in the 32nd minute. From 18 yards, Smith cleared the keeper and snuck it in under the crossbar to give the Tide a lead it would not relinquish.
Alabama won its last two matches of the spring and earned three wins on the spring season. Smith paced the Tide attack with three goals. Bourgeois and Theresa Diederich each tallied two goals while Molly Atherton, Kendall Khanna and Pia Rijsdijk each found the score sheet.
Freshman Emily Rusk played every minute in goal, earning a shutout against Mississippi State and allowing one goal or less in four of the five matches.
