TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama swimming and diving team will host the Crimson Tide's seventh annual Laps for CF event Friday, April 13 at 4 p.m. at the Don Gambril Olympic Pool in the Alabama Aquatic Center.
"I am so grateful to the Alabama Swim Team for partnering with Laps for CF again this year," Laps for CF founder Emily Schreiber said. "The support we have received over the last several years has been phenomenal and has enabled us to raise much needed awareness and funds for fight against cystic fibrosis."
Laps for CF started when Schreiber, who is a freshman at Furman University, began swimming laps to fight cystic fibrosis. This year, Tuscaloosa native Emma Kate Johnson, who was diagnosed with CF at a young age, will once again be representing cystic fibrosis patients in the pool. A fifth grader, Johnson in 11 years old.
"I am also thankful for the local families that we work with on this event who have enabled it to continue while I am away at college this year," Schreiber said. "This is always a fun event, and I encourage everyone to come out and kick off your A-Day weekend at the Alabama Aquatics Center"
The event will feature exhibitions by the Crimson Tide swimmers and divers as well as music, fun food and children's activities. The event is free for anyone who wishes to attend.
Since 2003, Schreiber and Laps for CF have raised over $2 million to support cystic fibrosis treatment, research and care. The money raised has helped to greatly improve the CF Care Center at the Children's Hospital of Alabama, where cystic fibrosis patients throughout the state go.
