Swimmers Close Out NCAA Championship Competition

AUBURN, Ala. - Alabama sophomore Alex Popa posted a top-25 finish in the 200 breaststroke on the final day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships which were held in the James E. Martin Aquatic Center in Auburn, Ala. this week.
Popa, at her first NCAA Championships, touched the wall at 2:11.41 in the 200 breaststroke, less than a second out of scoring team points for the Crimson Tide, to take 24th place. Kaylin Burchell closed out her rookie season with a 41st place finish in the 200 breaststroke after posting a 2:13.90.
Earlier in the week, sophomore Kristel Vourna took 11th place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.31, earning honorable mention All-American honors. Vourna also took 56th place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.90.
Burchell took 26th place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.86 while Popa was 44th with a 1:02.93. In the 200 individual medley, Popa turned in a 1:58.84 to take 28th place while Burchell took 43rd place with a 2:00.28.
