
Eppinger Finishes Ninth in Pentathlon at NCAA Championships

Senior Kaylon Eppinger closed out the University of Alabama indoor track and field season with a ninth-place finish in the women's pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon.
Eppinger finished the five-discipline event with a score of 4,000 points for the second best score of her career. Her performance capped a weekend that also saw teammate Krystle Schade finish second in the women's high jump by clearing 6-0.5 on Friday evening.
"We're obviously thrilled with Krystle's second-place performance and what she's been able to accomplish this season," UA head coach Dan Waters said. "She's had a consistent season as has Kaylon who battled well today and did some great things to finish with the second best score of her career."
Eppinger opened up the day by finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.41 followed by clearing 5-6.5 in the high jump to finish ninth. She then finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 39-10.5 for sixth and jumped 18-10.5 to finish seventh in the long jump. In the final event, the 800 meters, she finished 16th in 2:31.38. NCAA record holder Brianne Theisen of Oregon won the event with a score of 4,536.
Kamal Fuller also competed for the Crimson Tide on Friday evening in the men's long jump. The sophomore finished 14th in the with a leap of 23-1.25
"Overall we're very happy with our performances this weekend and proud to come away with a few All-America honors," Waters added. "We were able to compete and continue to learn and develop as we have been every weekend this season and will continue to do as we move into the outdoor season."
The Tide will transition into the outdoor season this week at the Bulls Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida on Friday, March 16.
