Head Coach Wendell Hudson
On today's game:
"If I was playing Alabama right now, I'd definitely be playing us in zone, and that's what everybody is doing. You are frustrated for the kids because you are getting wide-open shots. You are getting shots that you've got to be able to make against the zone because then if you make them, they will come out of the zone. We haven't had anybody play us man-to-man besides Kentucky, and we played pretty good against them. That's the thing. We cannot just sit there and not take advantage of wide-open shots. I thought in the first half we missed too many layups and too many things like that. It was awful hard then to get into the flow of the basketball game. You look at the stat line. We shot the ball 69 times. We were 5-for-21 from the three point line. We probably should have shot a few more free throws from the point of taking the ball up stronger. We had 41 rebounds to their 36. We had 11 assists, 15 turnovers, five blocks and nine steals. If you look at the stat line and take the shooting percentage out you think that team won the basketball game. Then you add in the shooting percentage of 37 percent. Three-point shooting hasn't been very good with 23 percent there, but it's those two pointers that we are missing around the basket and the inside. Anytime you have those opportunities, and I thought we had a lot of opportunities to get some easy baskets, you have to get the ball up on the glass and give them a chance to go in. When that happened, we didn't convert. When you look at our shooting percentage, that's really the tale of the game."
On how they work to improve and get through this year:
"You just have to keep working and keep shooting. You've got to keep shooting the basketball in practice. The other thing is that you've got to have the right people shooting it. We think we have our best shooters shooting the perimeter shots. They just have to step up and make some."
No. 10 Meghan Perkins, Forward
On their frustration:
"It was very frustrating, but at the end of the day, we had just as many shot opportunities as they did. We just have to step up and make shots."
On missed opportunities:
"It always comes down to missed opportunities. We capitalize on the plays that we should capitalize on, we would be better off."
No. 12 Shafontaye Myers, Guard
On her hot streaks:
"When I came in the game, I felt like we needed energy, so when I came out, I knew that we needed scores and steals to keep us in the game. I came out I had confidence and was motivated to come out and help my team make plays and score. When I made the layup, it kind of boosted me up on the defensive end and kind of gave me more confidence. If my defense is on, then my offense will come."
On the second half difficulties:
"I think that the hardest thing was scoring. We played really hard, and we came out aggressive we just couldn't get our shots to fall. We played as a team, and this will help build us stronger as a team. As we grow we have to learn from each step that we take."
