LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Alabama softball team had 11 players named 2012 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced.
Representing Alabama were Jackey Branham, Kayla Braud, Jennifer Fenton, Kaila Hunt, Ryan Iamurri, Jazlyn Lunceford, Jordan Patterson, Danielle Richard, Cassie Reilly-Boccia, Jadyn Spencer and Danae Hays.
The award is bestowed upon any player who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2011-12 academic year. The honor marks the second component of the Association's academic award program.
Back in late October, Alabama was one of the squads with the highest GPAs in its membership category that was recognized as a 2012 NFCA Top Ten All-Academic Team.
Alabama will start the 2013 season at the University of Northern Iowa Tournament in Cedar Falls. The Tide begins its title defense against Illinois on Friday, Feb. 8.
