Kyle Weeks Honored as Academic All-American

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Kyle Weeks, the Alabama swimming and diving team's senior captain in 2012, was honored as a two-time Capital One Academic All-American during halftime of the Crimson Tide's football game against Western Carolina Saturday afternoon.
Weeks was one of nine Alabama student-athletes to earn the prestigious honor last season, a total that led the Southeastern Conference and was among the top-five totals in the nation during the 2011-12 academic year.
A native of Poway, Calif., Weeks earned first-team honors in 2012 after being named to the third team in 2011. He joins Jill DeVasher (1998), Vlad Polyakov (2005, 2006 and 2007), Stewart Smith (2005), Guidio Arroyo (2006), Apostolis Tsagkarakis (2007), Kevin Greer (2009) and Elizabeth Hughes (2010) as members of the Crimson Tide's swimming and diving program to earn a place on the CoSIDA Academic All-American at-large team. Weeks and Polyakov are the only two UA swimmers to earn the honor more than once.
Weeks' 2012 honor marks the seventh times in the past eight year that the Tide swimming and diving program has put at least one student-athlete on the prestigious Academic All-American At-Large team which includes student-athletes from 12 sports, including fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
The two-year president of Alabama's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Tide's co-captain in 2012, Weeks graduated in May with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in finance. A three-year member of Alabama's SEC Championship squad, Weeks was also a member of the Computer-Based Honors Program, earning its Outstanding Student-Athlete award in 2010. A four-year SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree, Weeks was also a part of the 2011 SEC Community Service Team.
