Women's Tennis Garners Seven Wins on Friday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's tennis team picked up a combined seven wins on Friday with a split squad playing at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships and the Roberta Alison Fall Classic.
At the All-American Championships, Alexa Guarachi and Mary Anne Macfarlane began the day with their doubles quarterfinals match, which went in favor of UCLA's Robin Anderson and Skylar Morton, the No. 4 ranked team in the nation, 9-8(7). In singles, both Guarachi and Macfarlane picked up big wins in their respective draws as Macfarlane topped Stanford's Stacey Tan, the 2011 NCAA Singles Championship Runner-up, 7-5, 6-0, while Guarachi beat Virginia's Li Xi, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4.
Alabama had three players active at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, which began Friday morning with doubles. Natalia Maynetto and Emily Zabor won their opening match, 8-5, over Kristen Dodge and Sarah Lee of Michigan, while Maya Jansen partnered with Auburn's Plamena Kurteva to beat the Mississippi duo of Paige Keating and Allie Robbins, 8-1.
In singles, each would collect a win with Jansen beating Mississippi State's Alexandra Perper, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, Maynetto over Michigan's Ronit Yurovsky, 6-3, 6-0 and Zabor topping Middle Tennessee's Yuiri Nomoto, 6-4, 6-3.
Matches will resume at both sites on Saturday morning.
