
Soccer Tripped Up at No. 5 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Alabama soccer team opened its weekend slate of matches with a 5-0 loss at No. 5 Texas A&M, Friday night at Ellis Field. After the loss the Crimson Tide moves to 7-4-2 overall and 2-3-2 in Southeastern Conference play.
The Aggies (12-1-1, 6-0-1 SEC) scored three times in the first half and then added two more in the second frame to secure the victory. Shea Groom scored twice for Texas A&M to lead all scorers.
Texas A&M outshot Alabama, 11-10, putting forth an efficient effort, scoring three times on five shots in the first half. Junior Molly Atherton led all players with three shots, putting two on frame.
Jordan Day and Renee McDermott split the shutout for the Aggies as UA keeper Shelby Church allowed a season-high four goals in 56 minutes of action.
Alabama will close out its four-match road trip as it heads to Fayetteville to face the Arkansas Razorbacks. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 7.
