TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Four members of the men's tennis team will begin the 2012 season at the UCF Invitational Tournament, running January 6 - 8, at the UCF Tennis Complex in Orlando, Fla. Among the Crimson Tide student-athletes slated to make the trip are seniors Ricky Doverspike and Michael Thompson and freshmen Filippos Tsangaridis and David Vieyra, who both just arrived on campus days ago.
"We're really anxious to kick off the 2012 spring season with some good competition in Orlando," said Alabama head coach Billy Pate. "We'll get a chance to see our new mid-year enrollees compete. It's somewhat early to start the season coming off of holiday, but we wanted them to get into the flow of things and see what they can do. It will also be valuable to get Ricky some matches as he was injured during the second half of the fall semester."
Joining Alabama and host school Central Florida in the tournament will be Indiana, Louisville and Radford. Matches begin each day at 7 a.m. CT with both singles and doubles action.
