TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head soccer coach Todd Bramble announced the spring schedule Friday. The slate features five matches, including two in Tuscaloosa and three against teams that made the 2011 NCAA tournament.
"We are pleased with how our spring schedule has taken shape," Bramble said. "Two home, two away and we finish with a neutral site game in Orange Beach where we competed for the SEC Championship in the fall. These are five quality opponents with three coming off seasons in which they qualified for the NCAA tournament."
The Crimson Tide, fresh off its second NCAA tournament appearance in school history, began training for the spring season earlier in the month. It will open the spring slate against NCAA tournament participant Samford, on Sunday, Feb. 26. Alabama downed Samford, 2-1, during the regular season.
"The team has already begun working hard this semester, but now adding competitive matches like these to our calendar, certainly gives purpose and a greater focus to the training and will serve as inspiration for improving ourselves every day."
Alabama will then continue its trend against instate competition when it faces UAB on Friday, March 30. The fixture is the first of the spring in Tuscaloosa. The Tide downed UAB, 1-0, in September. UA will then face Conference USA champion Memphis and look to avenge a 1-0 loss to a Tigers team that made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament on Wednesday, April 4.
Alabama will then close its spring season against two SEC teams. UA will host Mississippi State on Friday, April 13 in Tuscaloosa and then face LSU in Orange Beach on Saturday, April 21.
