Head Coach Wendell Hudson
On today's game:
"We took some shots that were pretty open and pretty good shots that we needed to shoot. Defensively, I thought we did some good things. They had 16 turnovers, and we rebounded the ball in some good stretches and caused Valencia McFarland some issues every now and then, who is a great player. The big key is at the end of the day when you have opportunities to score and the other team is scoring, you have to matchup. Especially in the second half, we got started digging a whole because they were scoring and we weren't. We got it cut to four, but that energy that it took to get there we just couldn't convert back up. It's not a complicated game. We are going to have to play better, shoot better, make the layups, and when we get an opportunity, we've got to score."
On the health issue:
"The health thing is something we can't do anything about. We have to play. We all know Ericka Russell is a better player than she is right now. She doesn't want to come out of the game, but when you watch her move up and down the court, you know she's not there defensively. Offensively, she's rushing shots and not getting the spring she normally has. We have to have some other people step up. A bright spot for us though is Kyra Crosby, who played her best basketball game in terms of scoring. We've all got to do a better job on the board. From a rebounding standpoint, it wasn't that big of an issue as far as the outcome of the game. You just have to step up and make shots when you get a chance to make shots."
On shooting percentage:
"That's the big issue right now. When we talk about scoring, we had some open looks from the three-point line, but everybody's playing us in zone right now, and I don't blame them because we aren't shooting the ball very well. We did a much better job of taking the ball inside. We have to open up some outstanding looks when we reverse the basketball."
No. 3 Jasmine Robinson, Guard
On the team mentality:
"Everybody wanted to win, and everyone felt like they should come out and play hard to get the win."
On effort in the game:
"We were there in spurts. We were not there the whole 40 minutes. From time to time, we would pick up then we would let up and have mental break-downs. We would have another spurt when we would play together then we would let down again. That was the trend."
No. 21 Kyra Crosby, Forward
On challenges:
"Executing and playing together as a whole was the biggest challenge. We also had trouble holding it together throughout the whole game not just the first half."
On coming back with healthy players:
"We were somewhat in a better place in today's game."
