ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The Alabama men's golf team carded a 4-under-par round of 284 on Saturday to move into fifth place after 36 holes at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at the par-72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Club.
Alabama (-1, 575) is six shots off the lead of Auburn (-7, 569) headed into Sunday's third and final round. Tennessee, Clemson and Chattanooga are one shot ahead of the Crimson Tide in a tie for second at 2-under 574.
Tide true freshman Justin Thomas, who paced Alabama with a 71 in the opening round, followed it up with a 2-under 70 in round to and is tied for fifth place at 3-under 141. Georgia's Bryden Macpherson and Chattanooga's Benjamin Weilguni lead the field at 5-under 139.
Fellow true freshman Tom Lovelady fired his second straight 1-under 71 and is in a tie for 10th place after his first two rounds of collegiate golf. Sophomore Cory Whitsett matched Thomas's 2-under 70 on Saturday and is 1-over 145 for the event and tied for 18th.
Senior Hunter Hamrick shot 73 in the second round and is 3-over 147 in a tie for 26th while junior Scott Strohmeyer shot 77 on Saturday and is tied for 56th.
Alabama tees off with Clemson and Georgia in Sunday's final round at 7 a.m. (CDT) from The Farm Golf Club.
