Bobby Wyatt Finishes Second at Dogwood Invitational

ATLANTA - Members of the 2011-12 Alabama men's golf team turned in a strong performance at the 2011 Dogwood Invitational at Druid Hills Golf Club with sophomore-to-be Bobby Wyatt finishing second to Iowa State's Nate McCoy at 20-under-par 268.
Wyatt, a native of Mobile, shot a final round 65 to match McCoy but was unable to overcome his two-stroke advantage heading into the day. Wyatt carded rounds of 69, 68 and 66 leading up to his 65.
Along with Wyatt, incoming-freshman Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky., posted a top-10 finish at 12-under-par 276. He tied for 10th after rounds of 76, 71, 69 and 69.
Fellow incoming-freshman Tom Lovelady of Mountain Brook, carded a top-20 showing with a tie for 17th. He shot rounds of 75, 68, 64 and 72 for a 9-under total of 279. Sophomore-to-be Cory Whitsett of Houston, Texas, was one shot back of Lovelady in a tie for 20th at 8-under-par 280.
Lee Knox, a native of Augusta, Ga., finished tied for 25th at 7-under-par 281 while junior-to-be Scott Strohmeyer of Auburn, Ala., missed the 54-hole cut (3-under par) with a 1-under par 215.
The Dogwood Invitational is an elite amateur golf championship established to promote the game of amateur golf and support junior golf organizations. Founded in 1941, the tournament has grown into an internationally ranked top amateur golf event. The tournament is run by The Dogwood Foundation, a 501(c)3 non profit, and proceeds from sponsorships are directed to the Atlanta Junior Golf Association and The Wayne Reynolds Scholarship Foundation.
