TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced that Alabama's Alissa Kranz has been named to the All-South Region Second Team.
"We are very proud of how Alissa has excelled both on the water and in the classroom during her Crimson Tide tenure," UA head coach Larry Davis said. "This latest honor speaks volumes about what she was able to accomplish and the level this team has risen to, to again have someone earn this honor."
Kranz is the second Alabama rower to earn all-region honors, joining Bryn Crawford, who was also named to the second team, in 2008.
All-Region nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
"As a team, we're working to have more and more student-athletes in a position to earn this kind of honor," Davis said.
Kranz has already been named All-Conference USA this season after leading Alabama to the Cal Cup at the 2011 San Diego Crew Classic as well as a gold medal at the 2011 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in her second year as a member of the Tide's First Varsity 8+. The West Palm Beach, Fla., native was also a member of the inaugural C-USA Boat of the Week and Row2K.com's Crew of the Week after winning the Cal Cup.
In the classroom, she earned a place on the 2011 C-USA All-Academic Team as well as the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. A two-time CRCA Scholar Athlete Award honoree, she has earned President's List (4.0 GPA) and Dean's List (3.5 or better GPA) honors and was inducted into the Golden Key honor society as well as earning UA's Scholastic Excellence in Marketing award.
