
Owens Qualifies for Finals at NCAA East Regional

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Talaya Owens, a senior on the University of Alabama women's track and field team, qualified for the finals of the 400m hurdles at the NCAA East Regional on Thursday evening.
Owens clocked a time of 59.77 to finish 17th overall to easily put her in the top 24 that will advance to Saturday's regional final. From there, the top 12 finishers will earn a berth in the NCAA Championships.
UA's only other competitor on the first day of the NCAA East Regional failed to advance. Angelica Howard recorded a foul on her first three throws in the hammer throw and did not record a mark.
The Crimson Tide will be back in action for the second of three days of competition in Bloomington with the javelin on Friday at 11 a.m. CDT. Meghan Austin and Bekah Hoppis will both compete in the event for the Tide followed by Wilamena Hopkins in the shot put. Owens' final heat in the 400m hurdles is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT.
