Below is a recap of the first part of an interview with UA head track and field coach Dan Waters on his thoughts about the potential of the program at Alabama.
On the recruiting potential at the University of Alabama:
"When I was talking with (Athletic Director) Coach Moore and (Sr. Associate Athletic Director) Milton Overton, I was astonished at the beauty of the campus, the feeling you get when you're here and the college experience at the University of Alabama. I think I portrayed pretty clearly that I beleive I can get a lot of great recruits here. That's obviously the first vision for this program, to recruit the players that are here currently and then get out there and recruit the best players for the University of Alabama to make us as competitive as possible."
On his immediate vision for the program:
"This is the Southeast and the SEC is obviously the toughest track and field conference in the nation. Our vision is to be competitive with the likes of Florida, LSU and Arkansas and the teams that have been at the top of the SEC. We're going to do that with sprints and jumps and throws and some distance runners. We'll have a complete program for both men and women and a team that goes out there and competes for titles. If they're keeping score, we want to win."
