Kayla Braud Named First-Team Academic All-American

TOWSON, Md. - Alabama sophomore outfielder Kayla Braud (Eugene, Ore.) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
One of 10 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, Braud is a public relations major with a 3.92 G.P.A. While earning All-Southeastern Conference and Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-South Region first-team honors for the second year in a row. She has led second-seeded Alabama to a 49-8 record and a berth in the Super Regionals this weekend against Stanford.
A sophomore from Eugene, Ore., she leads the Crimson Tide in six offensive categories, including batting average (.437), runs (68), hits (80), total bases (102), on-base percentage (.523) and stolen bases (55). Her 55 stolen bases lead the country.
She was the 2010 SEC Freshman of the Year and earned second team All-America honors after setting the Alabama school record with a .505 batting average in 2010.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Braud and the rest of the Crimson Tide will open Super Regional play today against Stanford. The two teams will get things going at 7 p.m., at Rhoads Stadium. The game will air on ESPN.
