
Eppinger Third After First Day of the Heptathlon

ATHENS, Ga. - Junior Kaylon Eppinger finished the first day of competition at the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in third place for the University of Alabama women's track and field team.
Through four of the event's seven disciplines, Eppinger has racked up 3,296 points, putting her just 162 points behind first-place Makeba Alcide of Arkansas. The Tide's other heptathlete, Rachel Robbs is in 12th after the first day in Athens, Ga.
Eppinger opened the day by finishing second in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 13.54 followed by clearing 5-4.5 in the high jump. She also took second in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 37-10 and closed out the afternoon by finishing ninth in the 200m with a time of 25.53.
Robbs had her best finish of the day in the shot put where she was third with a throw of 37-3.25
The pair will resume heptathlon competition on Friday with the long jump, javelin and 800m.
