DES MOINES, Iowa - For the third straight year, the University of Alabama women's track and field team won the 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay at the prestigious Drake Relays. The Crimson Tide took top honors in the event with the world's fastest time in the event this season at 54.27 to cap a successful weekend at the relays.
"I am proud of these ladies and how they have been great ambassadors for the University and Tuscaloosa this weekend," UA head coach Sandy Fowler said. "It was an awesome and emotional performance from them. Also, the people in Des Moines were tremendous with their support and compassion for our team and community."
Fowler also earned a personal honor as the 14-year head coach of the Tide was inducted into the Drake Relays Hall of Fame prior to the start of action.
The Tide's victorious shuttle hurdle relay team consisted of Kim Laing, Audra Frimpong, Kaylon Eppinger and Talaya Owens. Owens also competed individually on the track and finished 10th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.54.
In the field events, Kia Wansley finished 12th in the triple jump with a jump of 40-5 and Tuscaloosa native Bekah Hoppis finished 17th in the javelin with a throw of 125-4.
