DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Alabama men's track and field team finished in the top 10 in four of the five events it entered at the prestigious Drake Relays this weekend.
Off the track, UA head coach Harvey Glance was inducted into the Drake Relays Hall of Fame to become the first individual to be inducted as both a student-athlete and a coach.
"This turned out to be a pretty nice weekend for us, overall," Glance said. "It was great for our team to see the respect our program has nationally and the amount of compassion those at the Relays showed for our team and community with everything we've been through in the last week."
Senior Fred Samoei finished fifth in the mile with a time of 3:59.34 in a section filled with professional runners. Samoei came in just behind American record holder Alan Webb.
Carison Kemei finished sixth in the seeded section of the 1,500m with a time of 3:50.22 while Dwayne Extol was 15th in the 400m hurdles with season-best time of 52.32.
In the jumps, freshman Jonathan Reid was eight in the high jump with an outdoor best height of 6-10.75 and Kamal Fuller was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 24-8.25.
UA All-American Kirani James also competed this weekend for his native Grenada at the Penn Relays. James ran the second leg on Grenada's 4x400m relay team that finished third in the USA vs. The World 4x400m Relay.
The Tide will return to action May 12-15 at the SEC Championships in Athens, Ga.
