
Swimming and Diving Celebrates 2010-11 Season with Banquet

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama swimming and diving teams held their annual year-end awards banquet at Bryant-Denny Stadium over the weekend, celebrating a season that saw Crimson Tide athletes earn All-American and Southeastern Conference honors as well as breaking multiple school records.
"We had a good year," UA head coach Eric McIlquham said. "We continue to break school records and earn All-American and SEC honors. On the academic front, both our men and women are nationally ranked, and it took a perfect 4.0 GPA to earn our academic award again this year."
Senior Adam Booher, a two-time All-American, earned the Mike Curington Most Valuable award while senior All-American Kate Shannon Gray, holder of two school records, was honored with the Christina Jarvis Most Valuable award. Gray also earned the Katie Williams Most Dedicated award for the third year in a row.
Senior Daniel Armstrong and senior Katrice Ewanich were named captain of the men's and women's squads, respectively.
Senior Denes Zubcsek took home the Marshall Shoemaker Most Dedicated award. BJ Hornikel earned the Arne Borgstrom Most Valuable Newcomer award while freshman Alex Coci took home the Coaches Award. Freshman Alex Pujol earned the Carolos Berrocal Most Improved award. Junior Kyle Weeks earned the Bob Dimick Most Scholastic award.
Kristel Vourna earned the Angelika Knipping Most Valuable Newcomer award while junior Caitlyn Harrison was given the Kim Nicholson Most Improved award.
Freshman Anna Rae Gwarjanski earned the Debra Hobart Perseverance, Determination and Spirit award, senior Britney Busch earned the Ellen McGrath Most Scholastic award again while freshman Paige McCleary earned the Coaches Award.
