EATONTON, Ga. - The No. 3 Alabama men's golf team gets back to stroke-play competition on Sunday with the Linger Longer Invitational on March 27-29.
The 54-hole event, which is hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer, will take place at the 7,073-yard, par-72 Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation. The Crimson Tide will be making its third appearance in the tournament, having finished second last year and tied for fifth in 2007.
Alabama junior Bud Cauley will look to defend his individual title from last year as he blew away the field with a 12-under par 204, which included a career-low eight-under-par 64 in the opening round. As a team the Crimson Tide finished in second place, three strokes behind champion Oklahoma State.
Cauley, who is ranked No. 9 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, will be joined at Great Waters by freshman Cory Whitsett, junior Hunter Hamrick, freshman Trey Mullinax and sophomore Lee Knox, who will be returning to his home state of Georgia to make his first start of the season.
The Crimson Tide will be without freshman Bobby Wyatt for the second consecutive week due to injury. Wyatt is currently ranked No. 19 by Golfweek/Sagarin.
Alabama is the top-ranked team in a field that also includes No. 13 Georgia and No. 15 Stanford. Along with co-hosts Kennesaw State and Mercer, the field also includes Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Chattanooga, Florida State, Furman, Jacksonville, Memphis, and UNC Charlotte.
Following the Linger Longer Invitational, the Crimson Tide will have just three days off before beginning play at the Insperity Augusta State Invitational on April 2.
