Alabama Men Fall to Iowa in Collegiate Match Play

BALL GROUND, Ga. - The third-ranked Alabama men's golf team fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes in the consolation bracket of the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship on Monday at the par-72, 7,167-yard Hawk's Ridge Golf Club.
The second-seeded Crimson Tide will play No. 12-seed Pacific in Tuesday's final round at 7:30 a.m. (CDT) for 11th place in the tournament.
Alabama, who lost to East Tennessee State in Sunday's opener and then rebounded to defeat Texas later in the day, fell to sixth-seeded Iowa by a score of 4-1 in Monday's consolation bracket play.
Junior Hunter Hamrick was the only Alabama golfer victorious on the day, winning his match versus Chris Brant 2-up after taking the final two holes of the match. Junior Bud Cauley fell to Vince India 2 and 1 while freshman Cory Whitsett lost to Brad Hopfinger 2 and 1 as well. It was the first loss of the tournament suffered by both Cauley and Whitsett who had been a combined 4-0 before Monday.
Freshman Trey Mullinax III dropped his match to Barret Kelpin while sophomore Scott Strohmeyer, who replaced the injured Bobby Wyatt in Alabama's lineup, fell to Jed Dirksen by a score of 4 and 2.
