Women's Swimming and Diving Closes Out NCAA Championships Saturday

AUSTIN, Texas - The Alabama women's swimming and diving team closed out the 2011 NCAA Championships with a pair of swims at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas. Senior Kate Shannon Gray was 38th in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:13.16 while freshman Kristel Vourna was 63rd in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.64.
"This was a great experience for Kate Shannon and Kristel," UA head coach Eric McIlquham said. "Kate Shannon closed out her collegiate career by earning honorable mention All-American honors and Kristel is part of a nucleolus of young talent that is going to carry this team forward over the next several years."
Gray earned a pair of top-20 finishes in the individual medley events, including notching honorable mention All-American honors in the 200 IM. Vourna also posted a top-20 swim, taking 17th in the 100 butterfly on the championship's second day.
