AUSTIN, Texas - Alabama freshman Kristel Vourna and senior Kate Shannon Gray both posted top-20 finishes on day two of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships being held in the Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas, this week.
"Kristel and Kate Shannon both had good swims, just off their best times, but at this meet, which is always one of the fastest in the world, you have to be right on to make finals," UA head coach Eric McIlquham said. "We're going to come back tomorrow, get back at it, and try to close out strong."
Vourna finished 17th in the 100 butterfly, just one place out of the points, touching the wall at 52.90, just off her school record.
Gray, who scored in the 200 individual medley on Thursday, earning honorable mention All-American honors in the process, finished 19th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.09. The Northport, Ala., native is the school record holder in both the 200 and 400 IM.
Gray finishes out the championships on Saturday with the 200 breaststroke while Vourna will swim the 100 freestyle.
